“The best classroom and the widest cupboard is roofed only by the sky” – Margaret McMillan
Outdoor learning is increasingly recognised as a fundamental part of learning and development;
- it helps children gain a practical understanding of their natural world and their relationship with it
- it offers the opportunity to build confidence, manage risk, appreciate healthy physical activity and test abilities
We have enriched all our gardens and outdoor play areas with natural elements; large outdoor classrooms offer shelter in all weathers and a wide variety of equipment provides lots of new challenges. We can learn so much from being outdoors; this enables all key indoor learning areas to be reflected outside.
We embrace all weathers – wrapped up warm in waterproofs and wellies or wearing sun lotion and sun hats – children love being outside. Please pack suitable outdoor clothing: wellies and coats for wet weather, or hats and sun cream for those precious few summer days.
Outdoor play is an integral part of our provision, so we ensure that children access the outdoors everyday. Some of our settings offer a completely free-flow environment so that children can go outside without needing to ask. Whilst other settings are unable to offer this facility, we still go outside many times during the day.
