Headingley Nursery

Children’s Corner Headingley consists of two spacious open plan rooms with a large outdoor play area, so children can enjoy spending time outside each day.

The layout allows children to easily interact with their peers and grow their social skills forming bonds and friendships with both other children and staff.

As well as delivering The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, we believe outdoor learning is incredibly important and children are encouraged to have fun playing outside every day, building their confidence and skills. The canopy that covers the outside area of this nursery means that outdoor play is possible in all weathers.

This Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery is open all year round and is suitable for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years old, with places for up to 61 children. Children settle in quickly at Headingley Nursery and its central location means it’s ideal for parents commuting.

Our Groups

Our Headingley Nursery groups are specifically designed to accommodate different age groups.

This means your child can benefit from activities and equipment that complement their age and ability, allowing them to learn at their own pace.

We adopt a teaching approach that inspires curiosity, awe and wonder and encourage child-led learning wherever possible.

This helps children grow in confidence and develop new skills through play and exploration.

Minimum Staff to Child Ratio 1:3

Babies and young children require a gentle, calming environment where they feel safe and happy. At this age we engage young children with tactile activities, designed to stimulate the senses, aiding their development.

Older children are encouraged to get involved with fun group activities, such as singing, crafting, and reading, helping them grow their social and fine motor skills.

Minimum Staff to Child Ratio 1:4

This kindergarden room is all about inquisitive exploration. Children are encouraged to explore their environment at their own pace, developing skills in mobility and dexterity.

The engaging resources in this room allow children to run, jump and climb, building motor skills while having fun. Activities including group singing and discussions enable children to express themselves and grow communication skills.

Minimum Staff to Child Ratio 1:8

At this age children are becoming more independent every day. We support them to build on their independence by encouraging them to complete tasks themselves, such as pouring their own drinks, washing their hands, and helping serve their own meals.

Purposeful play is used to teach new skills and learning objectives while having fun and children enjoy themselves playing both inside and outdoors.

Nursery Practitioner with children at meal times

With a wide variety of food on offer children experience a balanced and varied diet, establishing healthy eating habits that will continue into adulthood.

We serve three freshly made meals a day as well as healthy snacks of fresh fruit or vegetable sticks.

We can cater for any dietary requirements/allergies that your child may have and serve healthy meals in accordance with this.

Meals & Diet

Healthy minds, healthy bodies and healthy appetites

We serve a well-balanced menu of homemade meals every day at Headingley Nursery, encouraging a healthy, nutritious diet. Children sit in small groups at mealtimes and are supported to serve their own food and make choices in what they would like to eat.

We always have fun trying new things and engaging in conversation.

Outdoor Play

Outdoor play is a vital part of a child’s learning experience and we always ensure children get plenty of time outside in the fresh air.

The extensive grounds at Headingley Nursery offer the perfect setting for outdoor exploration. We organise regular picnics and treasure hunts which are always great fun for everyone involved and the large outdoor canopy means we can venture out in all weather conditions.

We also benefit from our own greenhouse where children can grow their own fruit and vegetables throughout the year!

Our Team

All the key staff at Headingley Nursery hold childcare qualifications and are paediatric first aid trained.

Our team members all receive continuous training so their knowledge is always up to date and we choose our staff based on their passion and commitment to providing outstanding childcare.

Our aim is to make sure children feel at home at nursery and look forward to spending time here.

A key worker is assigned to each child on joining the nursery who will take a special interest in their well-being and progress while at nursery.

This key worker will organise fun activities to aid the child’s development and will always be on hand to answer any questions from parents.

“Managers closely monitor the high-quality care and learning opportunities staff provide. They routinely observe staff teaching children and provide them with helpful feedback to support their future practice. Staff attend regular training and are proactive in keeping their knowledge up to date.”

Both of my daughter's attended breakfast club sessions until recently, they always looked forward to going and hated it when I stopped sending them. Would 100% recommend.

We had both our boys here and cannot recommend this place enough. Staff were so attentive towards both boys and ensured the settled in and prepared before going into preschool. Thank you to all the staff at CC.

We feel so lucky that both our children have spent their early years in the Children's Corner family. Our youngest is coming to the end of his time there and it really has been a home from home where we genuinely felt he has been loved, nurtured and encouraged to learn. Our daughter started school after leaving Childrens Corner's care happy, confident and more than ready to start school having made the most wonderfully special 'first' friendships who remain in her life well after leaving.

Communicating with you

  • Daily Feedback

At the end of each day, we will give you a verbal summary of everything your child has been up to throughout the day. This includes achievements they have made, activities they have been involved in as well as information regarding food eaten, sleeps and toileting.

  • Settling in Reports

Once your child has been with us for six weeks, we will review their time here and provide you with a settling in report. This details how they have adapted to nursery and the friendships and bonds they have made over their first six weeks.

  • Learning Journeys

We keep an electronic Learning Journey for each child at Headingley Nursery which can be accessed online via your unique password. This document contains pictures of your child enjoying their time at nursery and is a fantastic record for you to keep. It is also a helpful resource for your child’s reception teacher once they move on to primary school.

“The managers and staff establish positive partnerships with parents. A strong induction is offered, which provides parents with the opportunity to share information with the staff about their child. Settling-in sessions are also used to gain knowledge of children's strengths and interests. A parent app is used to communicate with parents to keep them up to date with what their child has experienced while at the setting.”
