Healthy Eating

Menus and Snacks

Healthy minds, healthy bodies and healthy appetites. Our mealtimes are a social occasion and an opportunity to learn. We encourage children to sit in small family style groups with a member of the team who encourage children to try new things, engage in conversation and most of all lead by example.  Self service and selection is encouraged where possible but we always ensure that no child goes hungry if they are unable to feed themselves, whatever their age.

For children who are with us every day, the majority of their meals will be shared with us. We take our responsibility to serve healthy, balanced and nutritious meals very seriously. We offer a wide variety of meals including foods from all the key food groups. Bad eating habits can develop early and we hope by exposing children to a wide and varied diet we can prevent this from happening.

Our menus run on a 6 week rolling programme and these are reviewed regularly.  We serve 3 meals a day with an additional snack of fresh fruit or vegetable sticks in the morning and afternoon. Our nutritionally balanced menus are prepared fresh daily by our dedicated cooks. We use fresh local produce where possible and have regular deliveries of fresh meat and fruit from our local butchers and fruit and veg shop. If your child has any specific dietary requirements whether medical, cultural or simply preference we'll do our best to accommodate their needs.

Children have access to fresh water throughout the day with milk being served at mealtimes. All of our children have their own cup or drinking bottle that are available at all times.

Children are offered a snack of fresh fruit mid morning and again around 5pm on an evening.

Babies will be weaned in accordance with your wishes. Blended food from the menu will be used or, alternative pure veg or fruit blends can be made. We provide powdered milk and Avent bottles for babies who still require milk feeds. For those babies who are breast fed we encourage mum to continue with this as long as you wish. Adequate room and privacy will be provided for feeding mums during this time or we can of course give your child your own expressed milk.

All weaning will be done in consultation with parents to ensure we are following your own routines and protocols from home.

Due to recent legislation in December 2014 around recording of allergens we do now identify for parents all 14 allergens in any of our dishes should any parent wish to know.  As shown above  we do source our fruit and veg, and meat from local suppliers and our cooks produce home cooked food for our children.
